Why Women and Girls?
New Mexico is truly one of the most beautiful states to live in. The reality, though, is that many of our women and girls, almost one in five in fact, live here in poverty. Our teen pregnancy rate is the second highest in the nation. In 2012, a New Mexico woman is still paid only 79 cents for every dollar paid to her male colleagues. Shockingly, one in four New Mexican women will experience sexual assault in their lifetime.
NewMexicoWomen.Org looks to change these statistics. We trust that by concentrating the collective power of women’s philanthropy to invest in all New Mexico women, together we will bring about major advancement.
We believe that when women are economically secure, safe and healthy, then families, and whole communities, are economically secure, safe and healthy. NewMexicoWomen.Org supports economic self-sufficiency, education, the elimination of gender-based violence, access to reproductive health services, and leadership development. To this end, NewMexicoWomen.Org builds philanthropic resources, provides insight through research and leads on issues affecting women and girls. The fund also facilitates collaborative efforts to address these issues and works across sectors to advance positive policy changes that will enhance the lives of women and girls.
